Kathmandu start

The Langtang trek is different from other treks in Nepal. There are very few tourists in Langtang - literally an order of magnitude less than near Everest and Annapurna. In addition, there is a very wide range of climatic zones - during the trek we will ride twice from the tropics to the eternal snow and back.

Day by dayItinerary

1

Day 1. Collection in Kathmandu

The group is already meeting in Kathmandu, at a hotel (we will book it in advance). Arrival time doesn't matter much. From the airport to the hotel it takes 30 minutes by taxi ($8 per car). In the evening there will be a general gathering of the group, we will go to a cafe to get to know each other and Nepalese cuisine.

2

Day 2. Jeep in Syabrubesi (1500 m)

Today the whole day will be spent on the road. To cover the 120 kilometers separating Kathmandu from Langtang, our jeep will take from 7 to 9 hours. The roads in Nepal are worse than ours :)

Upon arrival in the village of Syabru, we will only have time to walk around the area a little. We spend the night in a shelter.

3

Day 3. Langtang Khola Valley, Lama Hotel (2479 m)

A difficult and beautiful day. For now, the landscapes will be forest rather than mountainous, but no less attractive for that reason. We will gain altitude all day, moving along the narrow valley of the Langtang Khola River, surrounded by tropical forests and the animals that accompany them. No extreme stuff - just birds and langur monkeys. And on the opposite bank of the river there will be several cliffs on which wild bees nest.

Kilometers: 12 km, altitude gain: 1000 m, travel time: 8 hours.

4

Day 4. Gumnachowk (2800 m), Thangsyap (3200 m), Langtang (3500 m)

Today we again have to gain 1 km of altitude and we are again walking along the Langtang Khola gorge. Gradually, the rhododendron jungle gives way to higher altitude vegetation, and snowy peaks appear on the horizon.

Kilometers: 12 km, altitude gain: 1000 m, travel time: 8 hours.

5

Day 5. Kyanjin Gompa (3870 m)

Finally a calm day with little elevation gain. We walk at the foot of the shining seven-thousander Langtang Lirung (7227 m) through meadows where yaks graze. The village where we will spend the night today is Kyanjin Gumba (3870 m), located not far from the front edge of the powerful Langtang Lirung glacier. There are several miniature factories for the production of yak cheese. So in the evening, after a short acclimatization period, you can arrange a cheese tasting :)

Kilometers: 6 km, elevation gain: 450 m, travel time: 4 hours.

6

Day 6. Climbing Tserko Ri (4985 m)

We leave our heavy backpacks at our lodge in Kyanjin Gombe and go to the radial for the whole day. We pass through a vast zone of erosion at the base of the lake, or rather the overflow of our old friend - the Langtang Khola River. We begin a leisurely climb to the top of Mount Tserko Ri (4985 m). We have to gain more than a kilometer of altitude, so we can’t rush. Everyone is provided with a snail's pace, frequent rests and unlimited contemplation of the Kangja La mountain range (about 5800 m). At the top we have lunch with sandwiches stocked in advance at the shelter, rest and also leisurely return to the village.

Kilometers: 12 km, altitude gain: 1100 m, travel time: 9 hours.

7

Day 7. Descent to Lama Hotel

Yesterday's ascent completed the first part of the Langtang trekking. Now we need to quickly (finally) drop the altitude. The trails here are not difficult, so on the first day of descent we must descend almost one and a half kilometers and return to the Lama Hotel (2470 m).

Kilometers: 18 km, altitude drop: 1380 m, travel time: 8 hours.

8

Day 8. Thulo Syaphru (2250 m)

We finish our descent along the Langtang Khola River and, a couple of kilometers short of the familiar Syapru Besi, we turn sharply to the South. We cross the valley of the Chopche Khola river and climb to the village of Thulo Syapru (2250 m). From here the second part of the trek will begin - to Lake Gosaikunda.

Kilometers: 10 km, altitude drop: 800 m, altitude gain: 500 m. travel time: 7 hours.

9

Day 9. Chandanbari (3330 m)

Stupid climb. The path zigzags along the endless slope of an unnamed hill. Halfway up the climb we take a break in the village of Dursagang and climb again. Finally, after the 3200 meter mark the trail becomes calmer. We traverse through an enchanted (i.e. overgrown with moss and lichens) coniferous forest to the village of Chandanbari, or rather to its corner known as Shin Gompa (3330 m).

Kilometers: 7 km, elevation gain: 1100 m, travel time: 6 hours.

10

Day 10. Gosaikunda Lakes (4380 m)

The most beautiful day of Langtang trekking. Literally after 300 meters of ascent from the overnight stay, dizzying views of the Langtang Lirung massif (in the North) and the eight-thousander Manaslu (in the West) begin. Soon after the Laurebina settlement we cross the 4000-meter mark and climb the 4165-meter pass that separated us from the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda. According to legend, three lakes (Saraswati Kund, Bhairav Kund, Gosain Kund) were formed as a result of Shiva’s trident hitting the ground. He wanted to quench his thirst after he saved the world by drinking ocean poison, and then the mountains turned up... A beautiful legend and no less beautiful lakes, on the shores of one of which we will spend the night today (in a very modest lodge).

Kilometers: 8 km, elevation gain: 1050 m, travel time: 8 hours.

11

Day 11. Descent to Dhunche (1960 m)

Before breakfast, we crawl out to the nearest ridge to admire the sunrise over the Gosaikund lakes and the mountain ranges separating Nepal from Tibet. Then we turn back and begin a multi-kilometer descent along already familiar paths (through Laurebina, Shin Gompa and beyond). Overnight in the village of Dhunche at an altitude of only 1960 m. Thus, in just one day we are transferred from the snow to the jungle, after which we will obviously need rest.

Kilometers: 16 km, altitude drop: 2450 m, travel time: 9 hours.

12

Day 12. Jeep in Kathmandu

Trek to Gosaikunda lakes is completed. We rent jeeps and spend the whole day (from 7 to 10 hours) driving along mountain roads. But in the evening we find ourselves in Kathmandu, where a hot shower, clean clothes and good beds await us.

13

Day 13. Sights of Kathmandu. Flight home

Today the group is flying home. It is better to take tickets for the latest, evening flights, so that you have time to walk around the temples of Kathmandu and buy souvenirs.
