A tale for three days

A tale for three days

🗓 2011 ↻ updated 2017

Impressions from the hike "Polonina Borzhava" in August 2010.

How can I tell you about my impressions so that you yourself feel at least a small fraction of what I felt? But this will not be enough - you need to experience it, feel it yourself. Breathe in this clean air, see a fabulous sunrise, take a sip of sweet water from the stream. It all felt like coming home to me...

But until the very first day of the hike, I had no idea where I ended up. I couldn't even imagine that it would be so hard. That my backpack will seem three times heavier, and my legs will almost refuse to go further.

In general, the first day it seemed to me that I was in hell. Despite this, I still had the strength to sit by the fire in the evening, admire the starry sky and listen to fairy tales.

Dawn in the mountains is a special time. It has its own magic. It’s no longer as cold as in the evening, the wind has died down, the sun is rising over the mountain, illuminating the peaks. And below there is still twilight: fog swirls, gloomy, still sleepy forests turn grey.

There is not a cloud in the sky, only lonely birds break its bottomless blue. Another minute - and the sun is already illuminating everything around. Our tents are also coming to life. After breakfast, we hit the road. Yesterday begins, I thought, looking at the path going up. But everything turned out to be not so sad - the walk was much easier than yesterday.

When we walked from the Great Verkh mountain to Sty, I suddenly realized that my legs began to live a separate life; it seemed that they would not stop even if necessary. So I walked, it was no longer hard, there was no fatigue. I just walked and walked, up and up... Oh, is it already the top? =)

I’ll say something about the mountain tops separately. You stand there and look down - the villages seem like small toys, and people are just dots in a picture of nature. And then you realize how far you are. Far from your everyday life, from worries and problems, unnecessary thoughts. There is only you, mountains and clouds. By the way, the clouds are so close that you can see how a new one is formed from several clouds, how a translucent haze dances with the wind. You look closely and watch how a separated thin layer of cloud floats under large clouds...

What else can I say... I’ll tell you, go to the mountains, definitely! Go not only because it is magically beautiful there. Mountains change a person, make him kinder and brighter. There you discover a new, better you!
