Near Dnepropetrovsk, in Lake Kasyanka, which is connected to the Dnieper through a system of lakes, piranhas live.

Residents of the Berezanovka massif began to notice that muskrats were leaving the banks of Kasyanka, and the number of ducks had decreased. Then the fishermen discovered 4 previously unseen fish with sharp teeth in their nets. When they took out the catch, the monsters bit through the palm of one fisherman and the finger of another.
How did the piranha, which lives only in the Amazon River, end up in Kasyanka?

Both scientific ichthyologists and specialists from the Lower Dnieper State Administration of Aquatic and Living Resources are looking for an answer to this question. One individual is already being studied at the Biology Research Institute of Dnepropetrovsk National University.

The head of the ichthyology sector of the Department of Aquatic and Living Resources, Igor Ushchapovsky, said that the most predatory and formidable species of piranha, the natterera (also called the red piranha), has entered our waters. But it is unlikely to be able to live and reproduce: the water is not warm enough. Most likely, some aquarist splashed the piranhas into the pond, writes Blik.

Yesterday specialists began examining the lake. Members of the regional underwater sports federation joined them.
