This report is about the tour: Aroud Iceland
Review of travel around Iceland by car in July 2019, leader - Kirill Yasko.
It was great! Three months have passed since returning from Iceland, and I am still processing photo and video materials and every time I am happy to relive the days of travel.
After the “horror stories” in the description of the route about possible vicissitudes of the weather, I conclude that we were very lucky with the weather. We got caught in the rain only once, near the village of Vik, and successfully sat out the bad weather at the campsite. The tent was set up and packed up only once in light rain. Beautiful waterfalls were admired in the rays of the sun and with a rainbow.
I really liked the organization of the movement. The group traveled in three cars. The crews moved in concert, but independently. It was possible for one car to stop anywhere or go to a store. With the help of radio stations provided by Kirill, communication between the crews was maintained. It all turned out to be very convenient.
With food, everything was as planned - that is, good. In general, there was a very good atmosphere in the group.
Pleasant surprises
I was very impressed by visiting the following places, which were not mentioned in the route description (it was an improvisation):
- wonderful canyon Fjadrargljufur
- “bird market” of puffins and seagulls
- basalt pillars of the Studlagil canyon
These are unforgettable places.
Least expressive places
- an extinct volcano (though it has a good view of the surrounding area)
- Ausbyrgi Canyon
What impressed me
First of all, the waterfalls. Almost everything except the waterfall at Kirkjufell
It was interesting to watch the geyser. It was not only the “eruption” itself that was interesting, but also the movement of water before and after the eruption. The triple eruption (three times in a row with an interval of several seconds) was also unexpected. An unexpected phenomenon, especially given the experience of observing the Yellowstone geysers.
Observations of wildlife - seals (seals) and birds on the Vatnsnes peninsula turned out to be interesting.
I was impressed by the tour that Kirill gave around the capital. I was left with the most pleasant impressions.
Conclusions and plans
This is already the second very successful trip with OutdoorUkraine and the second trip under the “without backpacks” scheme. I really like this scheme and am now looking for new trips. First of all, I'm planning a trip to Morocco in February. Further priorities include Greece and China…
