Is it possible for elderly tourists to visit the Himalayas?

🗓 2017-02-22

Is it possible to go to the Himalayas if you are already under 60? A tourist from Siberia, Alexander Fedorov, went trekking to Annapurna Base Camp (Nepal) when he was 56 and his new titanium knee was only about a year old. Nevertheless, both Alexander and the knee joint successfully completed the trek in Nepal, reached the Base Camp at an altitude of 4200 meters and successfully descended. Neither age, nor avalanches, nor a 30-year break in tourist practice prevented this. Of course, in order to realize his dream and see the Himalayas, Alexander had to make a lot of efforts. But that’s even more interesting, isn’t it?

Of course, Alexander was worried, because the group was young. Will he be a liability on the Annapurna trek? But everything was completely different. He was always one of the first to go.

It should be noted that 56 is far from the limit for traveling to Annapurna. On this track we regularly meet tourists at a much older age. Japanese and European grandparents (well over 70) with huge cameras are not uncommon on Nepalese tracks. So keep yourself in shape, train and don’t be afraid of anything.
