📍 Carpathians 🗓 2016
Review of the hike Highest Peaks in June 2016. Carpathians.

When the mountains were still in the distance, I already realized that an extraordinary time awaited me. The mountains, slightly hidden by haze, made even the road to the starting point something unusual. But the most interesting thing, of course, awaited me during the hike...

The first thing that surprised me was the fairly large and diverse group. And despite the likelihood of difficulties (due to the large number of people, the transitions could be delayed, because everyone’s physical form is different), we covered even longer sections of the route than planned.

Already the first climb, which by the way took place in a light rain, revealed a magical atmosphere. I immediately remembered Tolkien and his Lord of the Rings. We, like the “Fellowship of the Ring,” made our way through the fabulous landscapes of the Montenegrin ridge. The forest gave way to peaks, and from the peaks opened delightful horizons of blue mountains in the distance.

Even the pestering wind was delightful. Despite the cold and difficult climbs, it was impossible not to enjoy the grandeur that was around.

One day the wind drove us lower, and we spent the night near a mountain lake. It was, perhaps, the coldest overnight stay, but the lake and the river flowing from it, and the unusual low-growing pine trees, also made it the most beautiful place to spend the night.

Climbing the highest peaks of Ukraine brought a lot of delight. I wanted to remember everything exactly - the views, the coolness of the mountains, even the pain of the muscles, and the unspeakable pleasure of being so high. I think it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to convey the whole bouquet of emotions and impressions in words, so I’ll just give a little advice - be sure to visit the Carpathians, be sure to walk along the Montenegrin ridge. Separately, I would like to note the ascent to Mt. Petros. It was the most difficult and most spectacular climb, and it was spectacular both at the bottom and at the top.

And finally, I can’t help but mention our guide. The hike was not only spectacular, but also interesting. Oleg always answered our questions, sometimes even stupid ones, and asked for the tenth time. There were many stories about the mountains and some traditional horror stories around the campfire. And by the way, the night sky in the Carpathians is simply wonderful.

You can write a lot about the hike, and about what and how, but all these will be just words that will not convey even one percent of the impressions and experience that you can get simply by going on such a hike. In a word, I recommend it... you won’t regret it.
