Mountaineer porter from Nepal

Mountaineer porter from Nepal

🗓 2015-06-25

The other day, they turned to me, as a specialist in hiking and distant countries, for qualified help. I had to solve the word in the crossword puzzle :)

The task was formulated as follows: “Climber porter from Nepal - 4 letters.” And you know, I started thinking. Of course, I immediately understood that Sherpas were meant. But I stubbornly couldn’t find the number of letters. Have you already understood what's going on?

Of course, in Russian a representative of this mountain tribe is called “Sherpa” (4 letters). But in the original their name sounds like “Sherpa” (5 letters, translated from Tibetan as “eastern people”), and it is in this form that this word is imprinted in my vocabulary.

In fairness, it is worth noting that “Climber porter” is not an entirely correct definition in this case. Sherpa is first of all a nationality, and only then a profession. For example, the boy in the photo above is certainly a Sherpa (according to his passport, so to speak), as needed - a porter (carrying the corn harvest from a distant field), and only in the long term - a climber.
