Interview with a child prodigy
🗓 2015-06-24
We met this 12-year-old girl in Nepal in a tiny roadside village where there was no electricity and you had to run up a hill to get mobile coverage. I do not insist on recognizing our interlocutor as a child prodigy, but if you are patient and watch the interview, you will understand what shocked us.
We, five grown men, with a relatively broad outlook and pretensions to spoken English, were hopelessly stalled in our attempts to answer her questions and therefore began to ask ourselves. So the conversation turned into an interview, and we went from being a spectacle (all our relatives had gathered to watch us) to becoming spectators.
Of course, one can be skeptical that this is just a sociable child. That she simply has a penchant for languages and so on... For some reason it seems to me that the most important component of the “cocktail” in this case is energy. A kind of genuine passionarity - an irresistible desire supported by seething vitality.
