A group of tourists was covered by an avalanche near Annapurna.

🗓 2015-04-15

As I already said, we passed through an avalanche-prone area early in the morning, on frozen snow. But tourists who went a couple of hours later (about 11 am) were less fortunate. Just a hundred meters from the Machapuchare base camp, an avalanche covered a small group of tourists from Russia and several foreigners. They moved in a chain along a narrow path and only the first and last in the column were able to avoid the blow. The rest were knocked off their feet by the snow wave and dragged about 200 meters. Luckily, no one was hit by rocks or thrown into the gorge. Almost all of the victims were very close to the surface and dug themselves out, while the rest were saved by Nepalese who came running from the base camp with shovels. In the end, everything ended well - the tourists escaped with a couple of scratches and a slight fright.
