Sea Eye of the Carpathians

Meeting of the group in Volovets at the railway station approximately at 9:00-10:00 am. Several trains from Kyiv and Moscow pass through Volovets.

  After collecting the bicycles, we leave Volovets and head to the village of Huklyvyi, where one of the few surviving wooden churches of the 18th century in Transcarpathia is located - the Church of the Holy Spirit. Next, having overcome our first Carpathian pass, we descend into the village. Pylypets to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Transcarpathia - Shipot. It is located in the upper reaches of the small Pylypets River, which rapidly flows from one of the highest peaks of Borzhava - Mount Velikiy Verkh. The water in the waterfall cascades in numerous picturesque cascades with a total height of 14 meters.

  Further our path runs along the Borzhava ridge along the valley of the river. Repinka through the villages of Soima and Mezhgorye. We spend the night outside Mezhgorye near the Mezhgorsky pass.

In the morning, we descend from the pass and examine the structures of the Arpad Line. The Arpad Line, stretching for 600 km, was created by Hungarian troops in 1943-1944 as a defensive line against the advancing Red Army.

  Next we head to Synevyr National Park. We are going to the pearl of the Carpathians - the most beautiful reserved lake - Synevyr. Having admired the lake covered in legends, we head to the village. Freedom, which is sometimes called the “end of the world” - it is so far from the civilization we are used to in the very heart of the Inner Gorgans.

  Behind the village of Svoboda, the real Carpathians await us with a dirt road along a small stream in a dense coniferous forest, where we will spend the night.

  On the last day of our cycling trip in the Carpathians, we will mainly have only descents. We continue to enjoy the mountains, forest, and rushing streams flowing from nearby peaks. During the berry season, the valley of the Switch River is replete with blueberries, blackberries and strawberries, which will make it very difficult for us to move :).

  We will also drive along the old mountain narrow-gauge railway, which in the old days was used for logging. In the village of Vygoda you can now see a monument to the Carpathian tram - a steam locomotive that used to run on this narrow-gauge railway.

  On the way to Stryi, the final destination of our route, we will stop in the town of Morshyn - one of the most famous balneological resorts in Ukraine. We arrive in Stryi in the late afternoon to easily catch the evening “Kyiv” trains.
