Hiking the Dutch way

🗓 2007-08-02

Our Dutch friends talked about how things are with hiking in their homeland. Hiking there is difficult. Because there is nowhere. There is virtually no wildlife left. The last forest was cut down at the beginning of the 19th century. Остались только немногочисленные искусственные насаждения и парки. The only more or less suitable area for hiking is the coast and coastal islands. Sand dunes, trees and wild birds on them attract an incredible number of tourists. Several thousand hikers can easily gather on an island measuring 10 by 5 kilometers.
The weather in Holland is not kind either. The rains feel right at home here. It rains often and heavily.
What remains for the poor Dutch? To get on a normal campaign, they have to travel to distant lands. The Alps and other European mountainous regions are too civilized and over-equipped. And Dutch tourists fly to the Thai jungle, American national parks and other wild corners of the world. Now Crimea has been added to the list of such places.
