Beech and lichens
🗓 2007-07-24
It’s not the first year I’ve been wandering through the Crimean beech forests, but only today I realized how many lichens there are on beeches. The beech trunk is covered with almost several layers of lichens. And only on the sunny side of the tree are sometimes areas of clean bark found. On the shady side of one beech tree I was able to count 2 types of white lichen, 3 types of green, 2 types of brown, one black and one yellow type of lichen.
In order to make all these “scientific” discoveries, I needed only 3 minutes of concentrated contemplation of the tree. Compared to 6 years of running around and around, this is simply nothing.
