Lenin Peak no longer exists
🗓 2006-07-09
Tajik authorities have recently been renaming mountain peaks whose names are associated with the Soviet era.
The administration of the President of the Republic said that Lenin Peak (7134 m) will become Independence Peak, and Revolution Peak (6940 m) will become Avicenna Peak. Let us recall that in 1999 Tajikistan renamed the highest seven-thousander peak of the former USSR, Communism Peak (7495 m), into the peak of Ismail Somoni, the founder of the Tajik state.
