The largest underwater museum discovered in Ukraine

This was reported by the organizers of the expedition - Deputy Director of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences Denis Kozak and Director of the State Enterprise "Department of Underwater Heritage of Ukraine" Sergei Voronov. They noted that the expedition was carried out for the purpose of photographic and film recording of historical monuments. Unfortunately, Kozak noted, most of the historical monuments and cultural heritage have not been recorded today, and their certification has not been compiled. “That is, in essence, they exist, but they are not there. They are there for scientists, but they are not there for the state for the most part,” Kozak said.
The expedition was carried out by Ukrainian archaeologists using search and research equipment from the US Institute of Archeology and Oceanography. American researcher and scientist Dr. Robert Ballard, who is known, in particular, for discovering the site of the Titanic disaster, also took part in the study of the Black Sea bottom. “Having extremely advanced technology, he suggested that we do certain studies that would allow us to detect everything that is in the waters of the Ukrainian Black Sea. We agreed to this cooperation. It was mainly carried out with the financial support of the American side,” Kozak said.
According to the director of the Institute of Archaeology, the study was carried out for two weeks by scanning the depth of the sea down to almost 2 thousand meters. He noted that the scanning method allows for a thorough study of objects without destroying them, which is very important in research. This method also makes it possible for not only archaeologists to join the study of monuments, but also biologists, anthropologists, historians and other scientists who, through a computer, receive the information they need from the sea day via satellite.
