A Russian climber died in Crimea.

🗓 2006-05-30

The disaster occurred on Mount Mshatka (the area of the so-called Foros walls). Four athletes from Togliatti have been conquering the Crimean mountains within a week. True, the climbers were not registered with the mountain rescue service. On this day, having divided into groups of two, they chose different routes for themselves. 36-year-old Evgeniy and his partner chose a rather difficult route: loose terrain combined with a steep cliff... Evgeniy walked ahead. Having climbed to a height of 15 meters, the climber laid down first one, then another special safety device (the so-called “bookmarks”) in order to continue moving further. But suddenly both metal structures were torn out of the loose rock, and Evgeniy, having flown more than 20 meters, fell onto a rocky “shelf.” The climber died on the spot from his injuries. Yalta mine rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived at the scene when called.

The deceased had to be lowered down a steep cliff 200-250 meters away. This is quite a dangerous route. At the same time, representatives of various extreme sports constantly train on the Foros walls. There are occasional deaths.

So this spring, a paratrooper died here after getting caught on the rocks, and last year there was a fatal accident with one of the climbers. In total, 8 people have died due to accidents in the mountains since the beginning of the year. And 46 mountain lovers had to provide various assistance. Reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.\\Army of Crimea
