Church of Ioann Predtecha in Kerch

The unique church in Kerch - the church of Ioann Predtecha - is the only one of architectural monuments, which have been well preserved since the period of the golden age of the Tmutarakan culture (X-XI centuries). The church is very beautiful, it is a graceful, 4-pillars cross-dome building with one dome on the high drum. The massive walls are made of alternating lines, which are of white-stone blocks and red bricks.

The combination of different forms makes the church original and beautiful; you never mistake this church for another: for in this building two architectural systems are connected - basilical and cross-dome.

The church of Ioann Predtecha is outstanding creature of architecture. Many characteristic features of the church have come from the old-russian churches.
