Report on the trip to the Carpathians July 17-23, 2005

🗓 2006

It's nice to meet friends. It is doubly pleasant to meet them in the mountains. And it’s just incredibly nice to know that you are on the same path with them. I led a group from Lithuania to Gorgany and did not meet my Kyiv friends at the station in Ivano-Frankovsk. Then we walked together...

From the first seconds the mountains made us understand what kind of hike this would be. Having crossed the bridge we found ourselves...on the other side. And the other bank turned out to be... a complete swamp. The rains last week turned all the dirt paths into mud. We didn’t know it yet, but for the next week we had to knead this mud from morning to evening. We also didn’t know that we would like it WILDLY.

We also liked the local jungle. Green fir trees, green mosses and green ferns combined with thick (and thank God not green) fog created an excellent illusion of the humid tropics. However, it was not at all as hot and stuffy as in the jungle, for which we repeatedly thanked nature.

We moved actively on this hike. But apparently there was little movement, the power was seething in us and every day the people started some kind of mess. Playing dodgeball, fencing with backpacks and other good fun. Or was it the moon that had this effect on us?

And we walked really quickly. The plan for the hike was fulfilled and exceeded. And this despite the fact that we got into trouble a couple of times - either descending along the bed of a mountain river, or conducting reconnaissance forays for half a day.

And at the end of the hike, we sat in the sun and drank a bucket of tea with mountain herbs. They glanced at the mountain peaks, the flowers under their feet and stomped on.
