Review of the sea voyage Turkish Atlantis, September 2020
A month has just passed since our trip, so I can write a post. A kayaking trip somewhere in the sea... The first thought is that this will be a cool adventure.
Surprisingly, my husband and our friends quickly agreed to participate in this. Already before the trip itself, I had thoughts that my swimming skills left much to be desired and in general I was probably not a very good rower, but there was nowhere to go. As they say: be afraid of your wishes - they tend to come true.
In my opinion, day 1 of any hike is the most difficult and this was no exception. The sea doesn’t really help you swim; you still need to row. I also developed seasickness, which I didn’t expect at all. At lunch, I was already thinking about how I would collect all the pills from passing yachts.
However, the beauty around you charges you with positivity and a great mood. Moreover, such a trip differs from walking, because you spend only 4 hours a day in a kayak. Arriving at our first overnight stay, I fully realized that it was worth it. A wild beach, dinner and a gorgeous sunset - everything a traveler needs to be happy.
The next day we were already in Aperlai (the city of the ancient state of Lycia). It’s so cool that these ruins have survived to this day, I hope after us there will also be something to admire.
On day 3 we sailed to the partially sunken city of Ximene. It’s interesting to figure out what it could be: I really liked the stairs that simply went under the water. The weather and the sea pleased us with their warmth, so we could swim at any time of the day.
Then we temporarily entered civilization. A fresh water shower and ice cream seemed like the best things in the world. But we moved on, because the next day we were supposed to see turtles.
I had never seen turtles in the sea, so when one from below hit our kayak and swam out next to it, I was shocked. It was about 1 meter long, if not more. To be honest, the turtle scared us with its size. In addition, she swam very close to us, so it seemed that she was about to bite through the side of our kayak and it would fill with water. Therefore, we successfully sailed away from it, and the rest of the turtles were already smaller in size, so it was a pleasure to admire them.
In the end, we reached our starting point in 40 minutes by car, and rowed for 4 days by kayak....
Such a journey is to some extent a test, it feels as if you are watching a movie and in general it’s not all with you. However, to say that I liked it is to say nothing. The coolness of this journey tends to infinity
