In Morocco with hand luggage

In Morocco with hand luggage

Professional photographer and avid traveler Risha Volodina (Neyka) shared a list of light-duty gear she took with her for her trip to Morocco and Toubkal in January 2019. The idea of this set was to squeeze into the baggage allowance of low-cost airlines (7-10 kg) and thereby save on air tickets to Morocco. But walking with such a light backpack is much more pleasant, so read, analyze and travel light!

On myself

  • membrane jacket Marmot WMS Precip Jacket - 310 gr
  • down jacket Turbat Gemba Kap 2 - 280 gr
  • hiking boots Salomon - 400 gr
  • Crane trekking pants
  • merino Icebreaker thermal underwear
  • warm buff
  • light buff
  • ESS sunglasses
  • DexShell waterproof gloves

In your pockets

  • powerbank with wire
  • 4 batteries for camera
  • smartphone
  • Headlamp + batteries - 85 g

Hand luggage (in a backpack)

  • backpack Osprey Talon 33 - 920 g
  • sleeping bag Sea to Summit Micro III - 740 g
  • Therm-a-rest Neoair mat (can be was not to take) - 540 gr
  • Sea To Summit 8L dry bag - 26 gr
  • storm trousers - 100 g
  • Keen Newport H2 trekking sandals - 400 g
  • Turbat down socks - 100 g
  • Crivit trekking socks 3 pairs - 120 g
  • trekking shirt 2 pcs - 100 g
  • linen - 100 g
  • soft platipus bottle 1l, 2 pcs - 48 g
  • silicone bowl Sea To Summit
  • spoon
  • titanium mug Ti Artisan 650 ml - 115 g
  • burner Kovea Solo Stove KB0409 - 124 g
  • dirty bags
  • first aid kit in a zip bag with a couple of tablets of everything
  • personal hygiene (brush, paste, Sea to summit shampoo-soap)
  • small microfiber towel
  • package with sublimates (Harchi, Food, Idlo) - 1000 g
  • Canon 50D camera + Sigma 10-20 mm lens - 600 g

As a result, this set does not fit well into 7 kg (MAU), but if you wish, you can make a trick. And at 10 kg (WizzAir, RyanAir) everything goes with a whiz. It is also important that the Osprey Talon backpack fits the dimensions of carry-on luggage.

Of course, immediately after being weighed at the airport, the contents of the pockets and excess clothing were sent to the backpack. Upon arrival in Morocco, we bought some groceries. And before climbing Toubkal, we rented crampons and trekking poles (in Imlil).

I am generally pleased with the set of clothes, but there were two problems. On the morning of the assault, our hands and feet were very cold. Thin gloves and regular trekking socks were clearly not enough. Perhaps it was worth taking warm gloves and chemical insoles.
