📍 Carpathians 🗓 2014 ↻ updated 2017

Trekking report “Svidovets and Gorgany” Carpathians, 01.09-06.09.2013.

Where does the hike begin? From choosing a route, packing a backpack or taking the first step along forest paths? For me, it starts with defining a set of impressions that I will then take home. I heard from someone that tourism is like a good addiction, every time you want more and more, everything is cooler, everything is higher. This year, when going to the mountains, I chose a difficult trip abroad. But at the last moment I had to give up and change the route to “Svidovets and Gorgany”, a hike in the Carpathians. Which I didn’t regret for a minute later. Moreover, the weather conditions presented a real test of strength.

Начало пути

We started the route, as usual, in reverse. Having arrived in the village of Bystritsa and having scattered food, we began a long climb. It must be said that the group was small (only 8 people), consisting of people who were going to the mountains not for the first time. It was on the first day, having assessed the physical preparation of the group and the rain clouds floating across the sky, I thought: “there will be no mercy”)). I would like to express special thanks to my trekking boots, although they mercilessly rubbed my feet due to their newness. No sneakers, even the best ones, could cope with the washed-out Carpathian trails. The first 3 days we literally walked knee-deep in mud, and there were streams flowing down the slopes. Believe me, what you shouldn’t skimp on when going to the Carpathians is shoes. Dry feet cost a lot.

Along the way we came across a wonderful clearing with benches and even a swing.

The first day's overnight stay was planned at Legion Pass, so we moved on. Along the way, a local woman treated us to porcini mushrooms, so for dinner we had cheese soup with mushrooms and rain. Having erected the tents and started to light a fire, the third part of the group hid from the rain in the tents. By the way, a raincoat is another very necessary thing (or a jacket + membrane pants). I only had a membrane jacket, which I later had to regret. I must say that I sleep well with the rain hitting the tent.

In the morning the sun came out and the rain stopped. The day was easy in terms of difficulty, we didn’t walk long, having decided to postpone the difficult part of the route until tomorrow and stop at the foot of the town of Durnya. And then we cooked buckwheat with mushrooms for 8 hours. Perhaps mushrooms are to blame for this) Although they looked like porcini mushrooms)) And here is a fungus that I photographed along the way. Not edible, but very beautiful.

Гриб

The third day was a test of strength. From one o'clock in the afternoon the rain began to drizzle incessantly. In addition, we climbed the ridge (the Gorgans began), and there a strong and cold wind was blowing. For some reason, even the incredibly beautiful views could not distract you from the thought that you would give everything in the world for a cup of hot tea and a warm blanket. In fact, I love moments like this. They help us understand how valuable the ordinary things of our everyday life are.

On the third day we spent the night at the sources of the Chorna Tisa River.

For some reason, I hoped that after a difficult day there would be at least a day of rest, but that was not the case. On this day we walked almost 18 km through the mountains. For me personally, this was a record). But judging by the beauty of the views, it was perhaps the most memorable day.

We walked past small mountain lakes. I came across plush mountains

We reached our overnight destination (the Dragobat ski resort) when it got dark, and of course, almost the entire group wanted to stay not in tents, but in a hotel. That's what we did. It's hard to resist when a hot shower and a soft bed are so close. Apart from us, only Czechs lived in the hotel (who came to ride in the mountains on ATVs), whom I want to thank for the delicious coffee ... and mustard, ... and pie))).

The next day, most of the group went to Bliznitsa. However, I, together with 2 group members, only reached this cross.

Крест

After admiring the views, freezing in the wind and feeling that my feet were already thoroughly sore, I decided that it was time to return to the hotel. Here he is, Dragobat.

Созерцание

We left the hotel just before five o'clock in the evening. Civilization is addictive). The road was without dirt and with a downward slope, and not a path, but a Road. So we got to the place of the last night in comfort)). Someone went to the village of Yasenya for the joys of civilization in the form of beer and sweets (we spent the night just 2 km from the village), and I and two other participants stayed to light a fire and make tea. The group returned from the village with a dog. I must say that she honestly guarded us all night for the buckwheat and stew that we fed her. Here is the river where we spent the night.

The next morning, we slowly got ready, took the dog back to the village (there she brought us a cat, a chicken and another dog - all together they took away our bread and kefir, bought here :) and at 2 o’clock we left for Ivano-Frankivsk, taking with us a lot of impressions)

I would like to express special gratitude to:

-Ira (for an unfortunate trekking pole and a house for 6 days);

- Kolya and Oleg (for the donated adhesive plaster);

- Artem (for tea in the tent, when he no longer had the strength to get out of it)
