Melek-Chesmensky and Tsar burial mounds in KerchTwo grey hills can be seen from Mount Mitridat in Kerch. These are famous Melek-Chesmensky and Tsar burial mounds. Inside them there are stone burial vaults - the mute witnesses of the bygone fame of Pantikapey. Both monuments were built, presumably, in the second half of the 4th century B.C.

Melek-Chesmensky burial mound is rather massive construction : It's diameter is 60 meters and it's height is 8 meters. The space of the burial vault is extending in height from the entrance to the centre of the chamber adding the construction the impression of significance. The corridor (dromos) and the vault chamber itself (tsella) are not divided by the entrance and they are as a whole. That's why this monument is considered to be original and peculiar.

While excavating Tsarsky burial mound not a grave was discovered in the burial chamber: It was plundered already in the ancient times. However, judging from it's imposing size supposedly there was buried one of the Spartokids dynasty - the dynasty of Bosphor Tsars. It's much bigger than Melek-Chesmensky burial mound: it's height is 17 meters, it's diameter is 80 meters.

Wonderful subbarrow graves of Pantikapey are the monuments of world significance. Their strict and refined proportions testify of the outstanding skill of the first class Bosphor's master craftsmen.
