Everybody, who visits the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, will be absolutely shown a telescope, which bears the name of the academician G.A.Shain, his high-principled creator. It was the first of the largest 26 m reflector in Europe - 1960 is the year of its birthday. It is the largest optical telescope in the Ukraine now.
The assistants of the laboratory, 'stars' and 'galaxies' physicists have been conducting the observations for many years. One of the most interesting branches - exploration of cataclizmical stars, undergoing powerful explosions. Such explosions are of colossal interest, as it is one of the fundamental questions of galaxy's structure.
The future astronomers from the Ukraine, Russia, postgraduates take their practice in the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. Astrophysics summerschools for senior schoolmates from Israel and students from Great Britain, astronomy amateurs of the Ukraine were held here.
Names of outstanding people, memorable events are immortalized in names of small planets, opened by the Crimean astrophysicists. Thus, the assistant of the Crimean group of Leningrad Institute of theoretival astronomy L.V.Zhuravlyova immemorized the name of the actor, poet and composer V.Vysotsky. The small planet was opened on the August 22, 1974 in the Crimean Observatory, which was brought in the International Catalogue under the number of 2374. Zhuravlyova gave the name to this planet - Vysotsky by right of the first discoverer, which on the 28 of January, 1983 was established by the International Centre at Cambridge (U.S.A.).
The scientists of the Observatory take part in regular international patrol of the active galaxies, explore red "dwarf stars", conducting a lot of international scientific campaigns over its observation
