Djau-Tepe - mud volcano

Djau-Tepe is a mud volcano. It is the monument of nature of national significance (1975). It is the biggest mud volcano on the Kerch peninsula. The height of the hill is 116 metres above the sea level. Towering above the surrounding territory on 60 metres, it is clearly seen from a far. P.P.Pallas was one of the primary investigators of Crimea who has pointed out that Djau-Tepe had appered during the period of the great eruption in XYIII century, refering to the eye-witnesses. The total volume of the mud throwing out by this volcano calculates 55 million cubic metres.
